Like so many of us, the communities that I love were shut down and I was called to pivot.
We recently met with story producer, artist, photographer, and movement coach Jennifer Aks-Neuman, and were blown away by her work and mission, which so closely aligns with our own. After a career spent working with children in inner-city public schools, using art to help them express themselves and blossom, Jennifer has recently turned her passions to women, and to women’s stories. Her core mission is “to empower womxn to amplify their voices by sharing their stories so that we can deepen our connection and compassion around the world.” She’s created a 501C3 non-profit called HerStories, where she works individually with womxn from all walks of life to curate short 3-6 minute long video diaries of their lives, using all forms of expression.

I have been most surprised by the community's reaction and response to the collection of diaries. Originally, I was focused on each Womxn individually, but very quickly I felt the power of the Womxn seeing one another's story. I responded by creating “Let’s Celebrate Womxn”, a virtual gallery that I host every 3 months. The purpose for these galleries is to bring the community together so that they have an opportunity to witness and share in real time.
