Power Host Feature: Linda Magid!

Linda just might win the prize for the most eclectic combo of Revel host offerings.

Linda says that she loves watching people increase their abilities whether that is strength, balance, flexibility, or coordination.

Linda Magid is fascinating. Originally from Michigan, but recently relocated to Denver by way of a dozen years in San Antonio, Linda is long-married with one teenage daughter, and she just might win the prize for the most eclectic combo of Revel host offerings.

She teaches both Pilates, and US Presidents: The Breakdown and Takedown, in which she reads one biography of every US president each month and gathers with interested Revelers on Zoom to discuss what she’s learned. Her goal? “I’m learning about American history from a political point of view. My husband teases me that I read more about William Henry Harrison, the man with the thirty day presidency, than any other president, and he is right. I read two books about him because Harrison drove America’s policy with the Native Americans and I didn’t know much about that time period. I’m reading to understand our country, not simply to learn about the presidents. I mean, they are a bunch of white, male, lawyers (with a few generals thrown in). They themselves aren’t very interesting.”

Her work as a fitness instructor started around ten years ago. She had moved to a new city and couldn’t find a Zumba instructor she liked so decided to become one! “The gym I belonged to needed an aqua fitness instructor so I started there to get a foot in the door, and found that I loved teaching. I have always been a performer – first through dance and then through theater – so being in front of a group is natural to me. I bring a lot of humor to my classes, mostly making fun of myself so that people feel relaxed.”

Linda says that she loves watching people increase their abilities whether that is strength, balance, flexibility, or coordination. Teaching Mat Pilates offers the best vantage point for observing those kinds of changes because the format is demanding on the body while being gentle to joints. People go from literally not being able to do a move to being able to do it all – and their joy in that accomplishment brings her joy.

We’re eager to see what passion Linda alights on next, and hope she decides to share it with the Revel community!
