WTF Is “The Daily Revel?!"

Drop in for as little or long as you like.

It’s just there for you.

The Daily Revel is a brilliant idea that is currently under-utilized on the Revel site. It offers so many opportunities for connection. Please allow me to proselytize:

What is it?

It’s an empty Zoom room! Twice a day, every day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, Revel provides a free, open, and completely unstructured Zoom room in which our members can meet and hang. It opens every day at the same times, 8:30 Pacific /11:30 Eastern and then again at 3pm Pacific /  6:00 Eastern, and there is no closing time. It’s just there for you.

Where can you find it?

It’s always pinned to the top of the Events Page on our website only (not on app, but the push notification will come there soon). When the room is open there’s a link to simply click and join.

What do members do there?

We chat, plan, plot, commiserate, share successes, joys, failures. Swap recipes. Talk about hosting ideas, complain about unvaccinated relatives, share book and streaming recommendations, talk about climate change, ruminate on our dreams and fears. You name it, and it can all happen in The Daily Revel.

Why would you go there?

  • You just spent 15 hours binge-watching a show and you need to talk about it.
  • You bought a dress for an upcoming black-tie affair, are afraid it might be too short, and want an unbiased opinion.
  • You simply want to have coffee or a glass of wine or a tub of ice cream with a few new people in a totally no-pressure situation from the comfort of your own home.
  • You just had an awful argument with your romantic partner, or your adult child, and you want an objective opinion about whether you were at fault (or not).
  • Someone like Brett Kavanaugh is about to be appointed to the Supreme Court and your outrage is bubbling over like nobody’s business; you need to vent.
  • You’re on a break at work and want a jolt of girlfriend energy to keep you feeling inspired.
  • Your beloved dog of 16 years isn’t feeling well and you need a shoulder to cry on

What if I get there and there’s no one else there?

That is, admittedly, currently the too-frequent problem, and we know it can be a bummer. The answer is two-fold: a) no biggie, just “leave room” and go on with your day; it’s certainly not personal that no one showed up to a room where they didn’t know you’d be!  and b) spread the word. Announce in your favorite Revel Group that you’ll be on at a certain day/time, plan to meet some friends at the same time every week, text your bestie and say “meet me on the Daily Revel for a drink at 6pm?”

The bottom line is, it’s always good to widen our circles. That’s what Revel is all about, after all.
